Lt Gen Naveed Mukhtar appointed as DG ISI

RAWALPINDI: Lt General Naveed Mukhtar has been appointed Inter Services Intelligence chief as 11 key transfers and postings took place in Pakistan Army including the transfers of ISI chief and director general Rangers Sindh, ARY News reported.

Former corps commander Karachi Naveed Mukhtar will replace Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar as DG ISI, who has been posted as President NDU.

According to an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, Lt Gen Bilal Akbar, presently Director General Sindh Rangers, has been appointed Chief of General Staff.

The other transfers and postings are as follows: Lt Gen Nazir Butt, presently President NDU, has been appointed Corps Commander Peshawar (11Corps), Lt Gen Hidayat ur Rehman, presently Corps Commander Peshawar, has been appointed Inspector General Training and Evaluation (IGT&E) at General Headquarters (GHQ) and Lt Gen Asim Salim Bajwa, presently DG ISPR, has been appointed Inspector General Arms (IG Arms) at GHQ. He was posted DG ISPR in June 2012 and promoted Lt Gen in Sept 2015.

While, five newly promoted lieutenant generals are also assigned new tasks.

Lt Gen Hamayun Aziz has been appointed Inspector General C&IT at GHQ, Lt Gen Qazi Ikram has been appointed Chief of Logistic Staff at GHQ, Lt Gen Sher Afgun has been posted 31 Corps Comd (Bahawalpur), Lt Gen Muhammad Afzal will continue as DG FWO and Lt Gen Naeem Ashraf has been appointed Chairman Heavy Industries Taxila.

This should be noted that General Qamar Javed Bajwa took charge of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on November 29 this year after retirement of general (retd) Raheel Sharif.
