Anti-polio campaign to begin in Sindh from tomorrow

KARACHI: An anti-polio campaign will be launched across Sindh on Monday (April 22) and it will last till Sunday (April 28), ARY News reported.

Nine million children up to five year of age will be administered polio drops in Sindh, while 2.4 million kids will be administered polio drops in Karachi only.

More than 56,000 volunteers will take part in the campaign.

Following year, six polio cases were reported across the country, including one from Sindh. One polio case was reported from Sindh in 2018 as well.

On April 21, a countrywide campaign to administer anti-polio drops to children aging up to five years will start on Monday (tomorrow).

National Coordinator of Polio Eradication Programme Dr Rana Safdar said that the anti-polio drive will target 39 million children in all four provinces, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

He urged the people to cooperate with polio teams to administer drops to their children against this crippling disease.

Polio eradication programme on Thursday had confirmed presence of active polio virus in sewage of 12 big cities of the country.

As per details, P-1 polio virus was found from the sewage of the 12 big cities including, Peshawar, Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Banu, Mardan, Waziristan, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Shahdadkot.
