ISLAMABAD: Famous cricketer Shahid Afridi on Friday met the father of Naqeebullah Mehsud- the youth killed in a staged encounter in Karachi- and expressed grief and sorrow over the death of his son, ARY News reported.
Afridi offered his condolences to Mehsud’s father, and said the mere words cannot give justice to their family and instead action is required.
He also called for Naqeeb’s case to be proceeded fairly so that there are no more similar cases in the future.
“My heartfelt condolences to Naqeebullah Mehsuds family. No words can do justice to their loss,” he wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
“This should be proceeded justly & fairly so that there no cases like this in future! May Allah pak bless them with utmost forbearance to overcome this grief. Many prayers.”
Mehsud was killed in alleged fake encounter conducted by the Malir SSP Rao Anwar on January 13, 2018 in the eastern suburbs of Karachi. The police officer claimed that Mehsud had links with proscribe organisations like Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and the Islamic State.
A Joint Investigation Team (JIT) formed to probe the case later revealed that Naqeebullah’s death was an extrajudicial killing.
