Adjournment motion submitted in Punjab Assembly against drug use

LAHORE: An adjournment motion on Monday was submitted in the Punjab Assembly (PA) against use of contraband items in the educational institutes of the province.

The adjournment motion was submitted by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MPA Usman Mehmood in the assembly secretariat.

“Use of drug is on the rise in the educational institutes of province, which needs attention of the authorities”, the motion read.

The motion urged the authorities concerned to take immediate steps for rooting out this network in the educational institutes of Punjab.

In December, 2018, the Senate committee on Interior had sought a report from the Interior Ministry regarding the consumption of drug by female students of schools in Islamabad.

According to details, the Senate committee deliberated over the rampant issue of a new drug addiction – ice meth/ crystal drug – as Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Khan Afridi pointed out an alarming figure of especially female students involved in this menace.

 

The committee had expressed serious concerns over the statement of Afridi, as he said on Dec 18 that 75% of female students and 45% of male students, including from well-known educational institutions, have been found to be taking the drug.
