The situation started to become intense on Sunday after the border security forces of the two neighbouring countries exchanged fire over the contentious fencing issue.
“Afghan Security forces resorted to unprovoked firing on Pakistani side at Torkham Gate. A Pakistani soldier was injured due to Afghan firing. Pakistani security forces responded to Afghan firing effectively,” said a statement issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ISPR statement added, in order to check movement of terrorists through Torkham, Pakistan is constructing a gate on its own side of the border as a necessity to check unwanted and illegal movement.
As per the latest reports, curfew has also been imposed in Torkham and Landi Kotal after the border firing incident, official sources told ARY News.
Demanding an immediate probe into the Torkham firing incident, Pakistan has expressed serious concerns over violation of the border security rules.
“We believe such incidents will hinder both the countries from improving Pak-Afghan ties,” said spokesperson of the Prime Minister office.
Torkham is the most frequently used crossing point at Pak-Afghan Border and recently most of the terrorists have been found using this gate for entry into Pakistan, said the ISPR statement.
Time and again, Pakistan has been taking every possible measure to control unauthorised cross-border movements between Pakistan and Afghanistan through the Torkham border.
After the killing of the Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour (with fake travel documents) in Balochistan as a result of a drone strike killed and with reports that he even travelled to Iran through the Taftan border twice, Pakistani border officials had banned any entry from Afghanistan into its territory without proper travel documents at Torkham.
