World cannot afford unstable Afghanistan, COAS tells US envoy

RAWALPINDI: US Special Representative for Afghanistan Tom West called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, at GHQ, today, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement on Monday.

According to ISPR, matters of mutual interest, current security situation in Afghanistan and bilateral cooperation opportunities were discussed in the meeting.

The Army chief called for global convergence to avert a looming humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan as the world and the region cannot afford an unstable country, ISPR said.

COAS Bajwa also thanked the dignitary for participating in the 17th Extraordinary Session of Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC).

The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s role in Afghan situation, special efforts for effective Pak-Afghan border management and pledged to play his part for further improvement in diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels, the ISPR statement read.

US envoy also hailed Pakistan’s efforts for organizing CFM’s 17th Extraordinary Session of OIC.

Yesterday, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa to discuss mutual interest matters.

The extraordinary session of OIC is extremely important to channelise international efforts and save Afghanistan from looming security and humanitarian crises, the ISPR quoted Gen Qamar as saying.

The COAS thanked the KSA leadership for convening the 17th extraordinary session of Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers at Islamabad.
