Weekly inflation rises by 0.59pc

The weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) with base 2007-2008=100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined has been computed by Pakistan Bureau Statics (PBS).

The SPI for the week ended on July 03 for the lowest income group up to Rs 8,000 registered increase of 0.67 per cent as compared to the previous week.

The SPI for the week which ended on in the above mentioned group was recorded at 205.48 points against 204.12 points registered in the previous week.

According to PBS, as compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups from Rs 8001- 12,000, 12,001-18,000, 18001-35,000 and above Rs.35000 increased by 0.64, 0.62, 0.60 and 0.55 respectively.

During the week, average prices of 21 items registered an increase, while that of 05 registered a decrease. The prices of 27 essential items remained unchanged during the week under review.

Following are the food items which registered increase tomatoes 38.20 per cent, onions 14.15 per cent, bananas 5.21 per cent, potatoes 3.55 per cent, LPG 1.86 per cent, sugar 1.18 per cent, red chillies 0.72 per cent, moong 0.55per cent, mutton 0.51per cent, egg 0.41per cent, milk fresh 0.29 per cent, mash 0.27 per cent, masoor 0.25 per cent, wheat 0.20 per cent and vegetable ghee 0.03 per cent.

The non-food items which witnessed an increase are LPG 11kg cylinder 1.86per cent; georgette 0.85per cent; lawn 0.75 per cent; cloth 0.60per cent.
