WATCH: 99-year-old runner beats 92-year-old competitor in sprint

MEXICO CITY: A 99-year-old runner became an inspiration for many after he mowed down a 92-year-old competitor in the final metres of a sprint race.

Orville Rogers, 99, narrowly sped ahead of Dixon Hemphill, 92, in the 60-metre event at the USATF Masters Indoor Track & Field Championships in New Mexico.

It was a photo finish – Orville won by five-hundredths of a second.

Rogers, a World War II veteran and pilot, clocked 18.00 seconds to Hemphill’s 18.05 seconds.

This compares to the sub-10 second times posted in the Olympics for the men’s 100m.

The amazing video of the pair has gone viral on social media, leaving them with countless notifications on Facebook.

Hemphill has participated in five events at the Albuquerque event – including one where he was the only runner in the men’s 90-to-94 age group.
