He maintained the stance as an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) was hearing a petition filed by the Rangers who had challenged a court order allowing him to travel abroad for twenty days.

Akhtar said that he respected the courts and was always at all hearings whenever he was instructed and would continue to do so as well. He said that he was the nominated mayor of the sixth largest city in the world. The rumours spread that he was attempting to flee the country were baseless and completely unfounded.
Earlier, the counsel for the Rangers while pleading the case said that Waseem Akhtar was accused in the case of providing treatment to terrorists at the private medical facilities of Dr. Amir Hussain. He has vehemently denied the allegations against him.
