LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Saturday ordered an inquiry into the killing of a citizen in firing by the Dolphin Force in Lahore’s Sabzazar area.
The chief minister sought a report from the Inspector General of Punjab police and directed him to take legal action against those responsible for the death of the man.
He said the incident is being investigated from every aspect and vowed to ensure provision of justice to the family of the deceased.
Earlier, the police said a knife-wielding man, identified as Umair, attacked and injured four people, including a woman, in the provincial capital’s Sabzazar neighbourhood.
A contingent of the Dolphin Force reached
the spot and tried to get a hold of the knife attacker when he also stabbed a constable, Mubbashir, injuring him. In retaliation, the personnel opened fire at the man, resulting in his death on the spot.The SP Saddar said the attacker, who he said was a mentally ill, was attacking passers-by in the area.
He said the Dolphin Force personnel reached the spot of the incident after a call was received on the Helpline 15, alerting the police about the knife-wielding man injuring people.
Later, relatives of the deceased placed his body on the road, protesting against the force. However, the police baton-charged them and opened the road to traffic.
