‘UFO’ spotted moments before truck topples in terrifying motorway crash

A mystery light was captured in the sky moments before a truck dramatically toppled in a motorway crash sparking rumours that a UFO was spotted.

The incident happened in Portland, Oregon, and the huge heavy goods vehicle was seen skidding along the road after the driver lost control showering the freeway with sparks.

Sparks went flying as the massive truck scraped along the freeway – but that was not what drew attention once it was posted online.

Several eagle-eyed viewers spotted what looks like a meteor flashing through the air seconds before it happened.

The crash was captured on the rear view camera of Uber driver Hassan Hassan. He had bought camera a few months back figuring it’d be a good precaution in case anything happened.

“It was very, very dramatic. I just stepped on the gas.” Hassan told Oregon Live.  The 39-year-old noted that he was worried the toppled truck might catch up to his vehicle.

“I was just trying to get away as fast as I could.”

Hassan said he could hear the crash behind him as it happened.

Remarkably no one was seriously injured in the crash, said Oregon Department of Transportation spokesman Don Hamilton. A barrier was damaged at the split between the interstates and a temporary one was placed.

It was legal for the truck driver to be in the leftmost lane, Hamilton said. He said there’s no reason to doubt the video’s accuracy.

Hassan said he initially didn’t know if he captured the video. After checking the recording once he got home, Hassan said he felt lucky.

The video of the crash shows the rig beginning to tip — apparently because the rear trailer tires climb the inside barrier — before slamming sideways into the ground.

Twitter users were quick to point out the ‘UFO’.

One wrote: “What was that UFO over top of the truck before it turned over it look like a meteor. Maybe the driver was looking at the meteor and caused the crash.”

Another posted: “Look at the solar flare to the right of the screen it’s connected to the accident family.”
