Two neighbours of slain Amjad Sabri arrested for ‘murder plot’

According to sources, two boys named Mani and Sani have been taken into custody from Five Star Chowrangi.

They are said be neighbours of Sabri and reportedly have hand in murder of the legendary qawwal.

Sources informed that the two brothers have strong links in South Africa and it is also learnt that another brother of the duo was attacked by armed men three days after Sabri’s murder. He had sustained bullet wounds in the attack.

The law enforcement agencies have found clues of involvement of Mani and Sani in Sabri’s murder. The arrested suspects have been moved to undisclosed location for interrogation.

Amjad Sabri, aged 45, was travelling by car from his home in Liaquatabad area to a television studio, when a motorcycle pulled up alongside the vehicle and the attackers opened fire on June 22.

Grisly mobile phone footage of the scene of the crime shot by an onlooker showed the singer’s head slumped on his right shoulder and a pool of blood on the ground by the driver’s side where he sat.

Sabri, the son of another legendary Qawwali singer, Ghulam Farid Sabri who died in 1994, was a fixture on national television and regularly performed on a morning show during the ongoing holy Muslim month of Ramazan.
