ISLAMABAD: Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildrim has invited Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to participate in an extraordinary session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convened by Turkey on Friday in Istanbul.

The Turkish PM telephoned PM Abbasi and extended invitation for the extraordinary session of the OIC called on May 18 to discuss the situation arising out of the massacre of innocent Palestinians by Israeli forces.

During the telephonic conversation, Mr. Abbasi thanked Turkey for its timely initiative on the situation in Palestine.

Separately, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed on Tuesday that a planned summit this week of the world’s main pan-Islamic body would send a “strong message” after Israeli forces killed dozens of Palestinians along the Gaza border.

“The extraordinary meeting on Friday will give a very strong message to the world from Istanbul,” Erdogan said at a press conference in London with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

He added that all members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) were invited.

Monday’s violence on the border, which took place as the United States opened its new embassy in Jerusalem, was the bloodiest for Palestinians since the 2014 Gaza conflict.

The death toll rose to 60 overnight after an eight-month-old baby died from tear gas that her family said she inhaled at a protest camp on Monday. More than 2,200 Palestinians were also injured by gunfire or tear gas, Palestinian medics said.
