SHEIKHUPURA: A Karachi-bound train caught fire near Sheikhupura after a collision with an oil tanker late on Monday night, ARY News reported.
Six of the passengers were injured while others were rescued safely by rescue agencies from the night coach, Shalimar Express. The train left from Lahore and was about to reach Karachi.
Sources say that the incident occurred due to negligence of railway personnel as the level-crossing remained opened which led to the accident. Driver of the oil tanker is under-arrest.
About eight vehicles of fire brigade are trying to extinguish the horrific blaze which erupted soon after the collision. Eye witnesses say so far PR personnel have not reached the site to help the rescue agencies or passengers.
According to DCO Sheikhupura, the injured passengers have been shifted to DHQ hospital.
