Three Pakistani mosques placed in list of world’s beautiful mosques

ARY News takes an in-depth look at some of the most beautiful Muslim mosques across the world.

1 – Shah Faisal Mosque (Islamabad, Pakistan)

Shah Faisal Mosque is the fourth largest in the world and is built near the Margalla Hills, which also defines its beauty. The mosque’s design is inspired by the cubic Kaaba in Makkah and a Bedouin tent.

2 – Masjid Al-Nabwi (Madina, Saudi Arabia)

One of the holiest sites in Islam, the mosque was built by Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) himself. It comprises of 10 large minarets and can hosts at least 600,000 worshipers.

3 – Wazir Khan Mosque (Lahore, Pakistan)

Lahore’s Wazir Khan Mosque was constructed in the 17th century in the time of Mughal King Shahabuddin Muhammad Shahjahan. It is made of cut and dressed bricks laid in kankar lime, with some red sandstone in the gate. It is decorated with fresco paintings and tiles with cobalt, cerulean blue, green, orange, yellow, and purple as its predominant colors.

4 – Jama Masjid (Delhi, India)

Jama Masjid has a striking presence as it is made of red sandstone and its marble is made of interior. It has three large domes and two minarets.

5 – Ubudiah Mosque (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia)

Considered to be the most beautiful mosque in the country with its four minarets and a golden dome. It was completed between 1913 to 1917. The mosque was designed by British architect Arthur Benison Hubback.

6 – Great Mosque of Herat (Herat, Afghanistan)

The foundations of Great Mosque of Herat was laid by Sultan Ghayas-ud-Din Ghori in 1200 and the worship place has been renovated many times.

7 – Hassan II Mosque (Casabalanca, Morocco)

It is the third world’s largest mosque and also has the tallest minaret with 210 metres. It is located on the shores of Casabalanca sea.

8 – Badshahi Mosque (Lahore, Pakistan)

 

The mosque highly resembles the Jama Mosque in Delhi. Its courtyard spreading over 279,000 sq.ft and its minarets were utilized for defence purposes in the 1800s.

9 – Blue Mosque (Istanbul, Turkey)

 

The name of the mosque is derived from its interior decoration which is made of blue tiles. It was completed in the reign of Ottoman Emperor Ahmed I in the early 16th century.

10 – Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates)

 

The mosque has the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet which was made by 1,200 artists. It also has a 12-tonne crystal chandelier and has been considered by experts as a “landmark building”.
