LAHORE: Three bogies of a Lahore-bound passenger train derailed on Friday night near Sheikhupura’s Kala Shah Kaku area, affecting railway traffic and leading to cancellation of some local trains though nobody was hurt, a railways official said.
Lahore bound Khyber Mail was travelling from Peshawar when its three bogies came off the rails near Kala Shah Kaku area of Sheikhupura district.
Soon after the incident, a relief train was dispatched to the site of the incident to take the passengers of derailed Khyber Mail to Lahore, the railways officials further said.
No loss of life was reported in the incident.
Train accidents are common in Pakistan. The railways department has inherited thousands of kilometres of track and trains from former colonial power, Britain.
The railways infrastructure has seen decades of decline due to corruption, mismanagement and lack of investment.
Earlier this year, nine people were killed as a passenger train collided with two Chingchi Rickshaws near Lodhran in Punjab.
