KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday said that Thar coal power project had changed the destiny of Pakistan, ARY News reported.
Talking to journalists, CM Murad Ali Shah said that the success of Thar coal power project was not less than that of transforming Pakistan into a nuclear state. He said that the provincial government spent over $700mn on infrastructure in Thar.
The chief minister said that the provincial government would compensate the affected families of Thar coal power project and announced to pay Rs100,000 annually to each family.
He announced to open a campus of NED university in Thar and added that the government was working to provide free electricity to Islamkot district.
Murad Ali Shah said that they had established model villages for homeless people in the province and added that the Sindh government, in collaboration with Thar foundation established schools in different areas.
The chief minister said that his leader Benazir Bhutto had said that Thar would enlighten whole Pakistan and added that her prediction came true in 2019.

Earlier, Chairman Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, on April 10,had inaugurated the Thar coal power project.
The Thar coal power project had a capacity to generate 660 megawatts and consists of two power generation units of 330MW each.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and PPP leaders as well as Sindh cabinet members were in attendance at the inauguration ceremony.
The project was completed under china-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) flagship public private partnership of government of Sindh. For this project, Sindh government had given the sovereign guarantee of seven hundred million dollars.
