Terrorists need to be eliminated from cities as well, says Athar Abbas

ISLAMABAD: Former DG of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General (R) Athar Abbas has said that Zarb-e-Azb is not alone a military operation, it is rather an operation with complete national consensus, while he also said that during the offensive terrorists will have to be eliminated from the cities as well – ARY News reports.

Addressing a seminar organized by SAFMA, Athar Abbas said that it should not be expected that huge numbers of terrorists will be killed in operation Zarb-e-Azb, but they need to be eliminated from cities as well, for the sake of making the offensive successful.

He said that all the major cities of the country will be cleared within a month.

The former DG ISPR continued further that it was believed at the time of a military operation in South Waziristan that the militants have been isolated, but its was not the true situation.

He stressed that forces should also be prepared for any possible counter attack by militants in North Waziristan.

Referring to his recent statement about the decision of an offensive and General (R) Kayani’s reluctance on that, Abbas said that whatever he said then, was in return to the question he was asked in a interview by a foreign news agency.
