Late last night, two unknown armed men tried to barge into IUB’s Baghdad campus, at which the security guards opened fire at them forcing them to flee. A large contingent of police surrounded the vicinity and conducted a search operation following the episode.
A couple of days ago, Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) had arrested two ‘terrorists’ linked with proscribed Lashkar e Jhangvi (LeJ) during a raid near the campus. Officials had also seized a sizable quantity of arms and explosives from the suspects.

The suspected terrorists, Bilal and Nawaz, during interrogation confessed that they intended to wage an attack on IUB campus.
The measure to deploy Rangers at the university was taken in same regard.
Over 20,000 students are enrolled at the varsity, while the campus houses nearly 8000 male and female students, and faculty members.
