Tanu Weds Manu Returns becomes first film of 2015 to cross rs.100 crore mark

Kangana Ranaut’s Tanu Weds Manu Returns continues its domination of the box office by raking in more than rs.100 crore, becoming the first Bollywood movie to achieve the feat this year.

The romantic comedy, which features an impressive supporting cast alongside Kangana such as Jimmy Shergill, Swara Bhaskar, Deepak Dobriyal, Dhanush and R.Madhavan. The film is about a married couple rediscovering love for each other and features Kangana in a double role. Tanu Weds Manu Returns is a sequel to the 2011 successful hit Tanu Weds Manu.

That combined with great reviews and positive word of mouth promotion for its witty screenplay and dialogue has ensured that the movie will hold well over the next few weeks. A total of Rs 100 crore is virtually guaranteed in 11 days (since release) making it the first bona fide  super hit of 2015,” said Suniel Wadhwa, independent distributor and box office analyst.

What is most riveting and impressive about the film is the fact that it grossed such an astronomical amount despite the fact that the movie was released during the Indian Premiere League season, when Bollywood films gross low as all eyes seem to be on cricket. Also, the film was released on a regular weekend as opposed to on an extended weekend, yet still managed to gross more than Rs.100 crore.

Kangana Ranaut has risen in stature as an actress by starring in hit films such as Tanu Weds Manu, Queen, Krish 3 and Tanu Weds Manu Reutnrs. The actress won the prestigious National Award for Best Actress for Queen.
