KARACHI: A speeding water tanker crashed into a house in the city’s Korangi area on Tuesday, killing a teenage girl and injuring eight other people, ARY News reported.
Police said the tanker smashed into the wall of the house in Bangali Para in Korangi when the family members were asleep. As a result, a girl identified as 14-year-old Noreen died on the spot, while six other people sustained injuries.
After being informed of the incident, rescue teams arrived at the site and pulled out the victims from the debris.
According to the local police, the driver managed to flee after the crash. They quoted eye-witnesses as saying that the driver appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
Later, when the police along with rescuers tried to remove the tanker from the damaged house, the residents of the area put up resistance and demanded the arrest of the driver, prompting police personnel to resort to a baton charge to disperse them.
