Adiala Jail

Adiala Jail Rawalpindi one of the most mainstream central jail of the country. The jail was built during the military regime of General Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq at Rawalpindi Pakistan. After the execution of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto on April 4 1979 in district jail Rawalpindi later the jail was demolished and converted into a public park but it was established into a jail after a while.

Yousaf Raza Gillani the former Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan was also imprisoned in Adiala jail by a military court instituted under president Pervez Musharraf. Zaki ur Rehman was accused of being involved in planning and executing the Mumbai attacks that had killed over 160 people held in detention for 3 months in Adiala later freed on April 10 2015 after unfounded charges.

Mumtaz Qadri was also sent on 14 days’ judicial remand on January 10 2011 due to security reasons his trails were also conducted within the jail he was charged with the murder of Governor of Punjab he was hanged on 29^th February 2016.

Ousted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who was arrested lately on July 13^th was shifted to Adiala jail on charges of failing to produce evidence and means for his wealth. His daughter and son in law were also sent with him to the same jail on similar charges.
