There is a famous Chinese proverb that “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
The story of Laali, who prefers doing hard work to earn a living over begging, revolves around such a backdrop. She is a motorcycle mechanic in Badin now.

Laali was born with a physical deformity of his legs. She was only six years old when she got kidnapped from an area of Badin district in Sindh and was taken to Rawalpindi where she was forced to beg, which she detested.

Laali managed to escape from the beggar mafia and came back to Badin but could not find her parents. She even does not know whether her parents are alive or dead. Then, she stood up against her misfortune and decided to work hard to make both ends meet.
“I made up my mind that I would not beg again. What if God has not given me legs, he has bestowed me all the body parts with which I could earn money by working,” she said.
She lives in a suburban area of Badin, Tilhar, and travels by bus to the shop where she works with Riaz Bhai.
“When I asked Riaz Bhai to teach me the mechanical work, he thought how would I work being a girl. I said it does not matter to me. What I know is that I have to do work,” she said.
She had to face a volley of taunts everyday, but she cared a dime of what others said. The place she resides in is a hut of a woman.
After five years of hard work, she is now adept in her mechanical work.
