Software enabling overseas Pakistanis to vote will be ready by April, NADRA tells court

ISLAMABAD: National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Monday informed Supreme Court of Pakistan that a software enabling overseas Pakistanis to cast their votes will be available for use by April this year.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, during the hearing of a case, lauded NADRA and Election Commission of Pakistan for their efforts to develop a voting system empowering overseas Pakistanis to vote in general elections.

Chairman NADRA Usman Mobin told the court that the matter to develop a software has been brought under discussion with the ECP and work is underway in this regard.

The Chief Justice said that NADRA and the ECP should sit together and give overseas Pakistanis the gift of voting ability.

He instructed NADRA to furnish in court a progress report during the case’s next hearing in a month’s time.
