PESHAWAR: Senior Minister of KhyberPakhtunKhwa (KPK) Siraj-ul-Haq on Saturday presented the provincial budget amounting to Rs.404.8 billion in the provincial assembly, ARY News reported.
Announcing the budget in the Provincial Assembly, Chief of Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Siraj-ul-Haq said the amount of the budget has been increased 25 per cent as compared to the outgoing fiscal year.
He said the elimination of the ‘Thana Culture’ has been started and whole nation is worried over the sacrifices of Police adding that Police budget has been increased to Rs.27 billion from Rs. 23 billion.
The Minister informed that over Rs.219 billion have been proposed for welfare schemes, more than Rs.45 billion for administrative purposes and Rs.139 billion for Annual Development Programme (ADP).
According to him 1251 projects including 711 ongoing and 540 new schemes would be completed under ADP.
Meanwhile, Rs.111 billion has been allocated for education sector 33 per cent more as compared to the outgoing fiscal year, Rs.8 billion proposed for health, Rs.4 billion for irrigation, over Rs.3 billion for hydel projects, Rs.14 billion for regional development and Rs.10 billion for communication.
Siraj-ul-Haq announced 10 per cent increase in the salaries and pension of government employees. He said Rs. 6 billion will be provided as subsidy for providing food items to poor people on concessional rates.
Siraj-ul-Haq created the history by presenting budget and become the first party chief to present the budget.
KPK government is the only provincial government to present the surplus budget having the maximum allocation for the elimination of poverty.
Siraj-ul-Haq said special attention has been paid in the new budget to overcome unemployment, promote business activities and speedy development of education and health sectors.Health insurance scheme will be launched for the welfare of poor people.
The Minister said Rs.7.90 billion has been allocated for the population of 20 million to eliminate poverty from the province.
