KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has decided to establish Business Climate Unit (BCU) in the Planning & Development Department for ease of doing government business.
He took this decision while holding a meeting with World Bank team led by its country chief Mr Illango Patchamuthu here at the CM House.
The World Bank chief proposed that there should be an action plan for ease of doing business in Sindh. This would attract the investment and thrive the on-going business activities.
The World Bank proposed the Sindh government to develop a unit where one-window facilities could be offered to investors and a new climate be developed for enhancing performance of the government.
On this the chief minister announced to establish BCU in the P&D department. “I would personally chair the unit and would be monitoring its working and performance,” he said. He added that the basic socio-economic factors would also taken care of.
“Through the unit we would simplify the procedure and process with the aim to reduce the time, number of procedures and cost involved on the business indicators such as dealing with construction permits, paying taxes and registering property,” the CM added.
Under the construction permits the unit would ensure health and safety standards. “Natural disasters such as the massive earthquakes in recent years are reminder of the importance of having structurally sound buildings,” he said and added that engineering flaws, inappropriate materials and lack of sound building practices to be looked into for betterment.
He directed ACS (Dev) Mohammad Waseem to prepare detailed world plan for the unit. “The world bank experts would assist you if you need them,” he said.
