Sindh Assembly releases schedule of standing committees’ polls

KARACHI: The Speaker Sindh Assembly has released schedule for elections on standing committees on March 20, ARY News reported on Friday.

A new notification has been released by the Speaker Sindh Assembly as the government and opposition parties have failed to reach a consensus over issues relating to provincial standing committees.

According to the notification, the provincial assembly will accept nomination papers for the committees on March 18.

Elections will be held for standing committees, as well as chairman and members of Public Accounts Committees on March 20.

On March 7, a major division was seen between opposition parties prior to the elections of the standing and public accounts committees in the Sindh Assembly as Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) had shown reservations over three-party opposition alliance.

Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and Tehreek Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) provincial lawmakers had adjudicated to make independent decisions regarding matters relating to the elections on standing committees.

Following the differences, MMA lawmaker Abdul Rasheed submitted a privilege motion against the Leader of the Opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) legislator Firdous Shamim Naqvi during the session of the Sindh Assembly.

Naqvi had tagged MMA and TLP as an adopted child of ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). The statement came from the PTI’s leader was contemptuous that undermined privileges, it stated.

Whereas, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) had decided to hold protests over delay in the formation of the standing committees.

The three-party opposition alliance will organise the demonstrations inside and outside the provincial assembly.
