SHC issues show cause notices to police officers in 50 missing persons case

KARACHI: A bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) during hearing of a petition regarding 50 missing persons on Wednesday (today) issued show cause notices to police officers.

The bench expressed annoyance over the police officials’ indifference and failure to trace the missing persons and issued show cause notices to the SSP Investigation Karachi East and the investigation officer of the case.

The bench during the hearing told the investigating officials to use modern technology to trace the missing persons. The court expressing its annoyance over the investigation reports submitted to the court and said, ” your report is useless. These reports have disappoint the people,… you should have some fear of the God. The court will send you jail…”

The counsel representing a missing person, Nabeel Akhtar, informed the bench that his client has been missing for one year. The counsel said that the police made no progress in the case.

The bench had directed the SSP Gulistan-e-Jauhar and the investigation officer in the previous hearing to appear in person with progress report before the court but the police officers failed to arrive in the court today.

The counsel informed the court that his client Nabeel Akhtar and Junaid Iqbal went missing from Gulistan-e-Jauhar police jurisdiction on Novemeber 15, 2017.

The counsel of another missing person, Saad, said his client has been missing since 2015 and he is still untraced and no progress reported in the case.

The court issued show cause notices to the SSP Karachi East and the investigation officer of the case.

The bench also ordered the police officers and other law enforcement agencies to submit their reports about recovery of the missing persons in the next hearing of the case.
