ISLAMABAD: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has said that it is shameful of MQM-London to call itself a political party, ARY News reported.
The defence minister stated on Twitter that the founder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) issued anti-Pakistan statements and called for the country’s destruction.
The British investigation agency Scotland Yard had on Thursday dismissed a money laundering against MQM founder Altaf Hussain and two others over lack of evidence.
Interior Minister Chaurdhry Nisar Ali Khan had expressed reservations over the dismissing of the money laundering case. He said that weapons lists were recovered from his residence, and investigation was being held over the huge cache of weapons recovered near the party headquarters in Karachi.
MQM London had on Friday announced a new 12-member Coordination Committee comprising of local and overseas members loyal to Altaf Hussain, and claimed to be the legitimate party.
The party had on Saturday called for media curbs on Altaf Hussain to be lifted and an end to arrest of party workers. In a maiden press conference, Professor Hassan Zafar Arif dismissed the minus-one formula and denounced the MQM Pakistan under the leadership of Farooq Sattar saying that there was one MQM.
