KARACHI: Pakistan’s veteran all-rounder, Shahid Afridi has stepped up to help the national hero Mansoor Ahmed, who is fighting for his life for the last one month due to deteriorating heart condition, which has reduced the organ’s functioning to just 20 percent.

Former hockey player Mansoor Ahmed was struggling with health as well as with financials. At this time of need, nation’s cricketing hero Shahid Afridi came to the rescue of his hockey counterpart and announced that all his expenses will be born by Shahid Afridi Foundation.

“Shahid Afridi Foundation will bear all expenses of Mansoor’s treatment and won’t let him down,” said Shahid Afridi.

“I will always be there for our national heroes and support them. You have made us proud and hoisted our flag internationally. Will always stand by your side in these difficult times. Together we are #HopeNotOut @SAFoundationN,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Doctors have advised the ex-goalkeeper, who is currently being treated at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, to travel abroad for the treatment.

Mansoor Ahmed made his way to history books when he saved the last penalty stroke in the final of World Cup 1994 against the Netherlands that sealed the victory for Pakistan.

He has represented Pakistan in three Olympics.
