Syed Khursheed Shah, in an informal talk with journalists at the Parliament House here on Tuesday, said that the army chiefs in the past continued the tradition of staging coups in the country but COAS Raheel Sharif ended the culture by not taking extension.

Answering a question regarding extension in the tenure of former army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, Shah said that he did not know whether he asked for extension in service or the government offered it to him.

“It would be better if you ask this question from former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani”, Shah added.

The opposition leader criticized the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan over not condemning the attack on Charsadda’s Bacha Khan University.

“From Veena Malik to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi all have condemned the attack on the varsity but the person who did not spoke against it was Chaudhry Nisar”, he said.

“He (Nisar) is the country’s Interior Minister. How could he remain silent against the incident”, he asked.

“Federal government completed the metrobus project but did not complete the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta) website”, the opposition leader said.

He asked the government why Jaish-e-Muhammad Chief Maulana Masud Azhar was kept under custody and why it has not taken any action against Lal Masjid cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz despite the FIR filed against him.
