Shah extends Rangers’ powers in Karachi by 120 days

Rangers’ powers in Karachi were to end at 12am tonight, however the chief minister, under the Anti-Terrorism Act, granted the paramilitary force 120 days extension.

He hoped the Pakistan Rangers Sindh will continue its efforts to restore peace in the megapolis with same zeal.

However, the extension in powers will be ratified by the Sindh Assembly by means of a bill, which will soon be tabled.

Rangers, under Section-5 of the ATA, are authorized to conduct raids without warrant and detain suspects for up to 90 days.

On July 8, the Sindh government had granted 30 days extension in powers to the paramilitary force.
