According to details, paramilitary personnel arrested several suspects during a raid conducted in Azizabad – an area which falls in the constituency NA-246 due to witness a by-election on April 23.

Earlier to this, a heavy contingent of Pakistan Rangers had patrolled around Mukka Chowk, as well as in the alleys surrounding the Muttahida Qaumi Movement headquarters Nine Zero.

It was later reported that the Rangers conducted a raid in the area apprehending several suspects from there.

However, the identity of any of the arrested suspects could not be ascertained as yet.

The paramilitary force on March 11 had raided the offices of MQM, seizing a “huge quantity” of weapons and arresting activists, including one accused of murdering a journalist.

The raid on the MQM headquarters, known as “Nine-Zero”, sparked an angry response from the party, with workers shutting down large parts of Pakistan’s biggest city.

At least one activist of the MQM, the fourth-largest party in parliament, was also killed due to gunfire during the raid.

MQM had accused that its activist Waqas Shah was killed due to gunfire by a Rangers’ man, which the paramilitary force denied.
