Setback for PTI on home turf as JUI-F leads local government polls in KP

The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has faced a setback in the local government elections held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) with opposition parties bagging all four mayoral seats, ARY News reported.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results from 37 tehsil councils, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) is leading with 13 seats. The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is at second position with 10 seats.

Independent candidates have got five chairmen seats, Awami National Party (4), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (2), Jamaat-e-Islami (1) and PPP (1).

The counting of votes in several tehsils in local government polls is underway.

Peshawar setback 

The ruling PTI suffered a major setback after the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) candidate won the seat for Peshawar mayor in the first phase of local government elections held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results.

According to the unofficial results, JUI-F’s Zubair Ali won with a margin of around 11,500 votes after securing 62,388. PTI’s Rizwan Bangash received 50,669 votes and PPP’s Zarak Arbab got 45,000 votes.

Chimkini Tehsil Chairman Seat:

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, ANP’s Arbab Umar emerged victorious with 24,415 votes, while PTI’s Nabi Gul remained second with 20,398 votes.

Pashta Khura Tehsil Chairman Seat:

According to the results of 76 polling stations, JUI-F’s Muhamamd Haroon is leading with 6,086 votes while PTI’s Abdul Jabbar is following him with 5,936 votes.

Mathra Tehsil Chairman Seat: 

JUI-F’s Faridullah Jan was declared the winner with 22,000 votes, while JI’s Iftikhar Khan secured 15,844 votes, according to unofficial and unconfirmed results.

Kohat District:

JUI-F candidate Qari Sher Zaman has won Kohat mayorship by securing 33,991 votes while independent candidate Shafi Jan grabbed 25,561 votes, according to unofficial results.

Lachi Tehsil Chairman Seat:

According to the complete unofficial results of all the polling stations for the chairman seat in Lachi Tehsil of Kohat district, independent candidate Muhammad Ehsan won with 8,021 votes while Saeem Imtiaz of PTI is at the second position with 6,278 votes.

Mardan District:

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results, Awami National Party’s Himayatullah has won the mayorship seat from Mardan with 56,458 votes, while JUI-F’s Amanat Shah managed to grab 49,938 votes.

Tehsil Rustam Seat:

According to the complete unofficial results of all polling stations for the chairman seat in Rustam Tehsil of Mardan District, the candidate of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F Maulana Mubarak won with 16,887 votes while Muzaffar Shah of PTI got 12,482 votes.

Tehsil Garhi Kapura Seat:

According to the unofficial results of all polling stations, Bakhtawar Khan of Awami National Party won the seat of chairman in Garhi Kapura tehsil of Mardan district with 20 thousand 244 votes while Muhammad Ayaz of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam got 17 thousand 399 votes.

Bannu District:

In the Bannu mayor election, JUI-F’s Irfan Durrani was declared winner after securing 59,844 votes. PTI’s Iqbal Jadoon stood at second with 47398 votes.

Bannu Wazir Tehsil Chairman Seat:

JUI-F candidate Mastoor Khan emerged victorious by securing 3200 votes. Indp candidate Irfanullah remained second.

Bannu Tehsil Kaki chairman Seat

PTI’s Junaid-ur-Rasheed emerged as the winner. He got 4491 votes, according to unofficial results.

Bannu Tehsil Miryan Chairman Seat

Independent candidate Kamal Shah was declared winner after securing 11,885 votes. PTI candidate Shah Khan remained second with 6,370 votes, according to unofficial results of all polling stations.

Nowshera District

Tehsil Pabi Chairman Seat:

According to the complete unofficial results of all the polling stations for the chairman seat in Tehsil Pabi of Nowshera District, Awami National Party candidate Ghayur Ali won with 27,530 votes while PTI candidate Ashfaq Ahmed got 27,268 votes.

Tehsil Nowshera Chairman Seat:

According to unofficial results of 74 polling stations in Nowshera Tehsil of Nowshera District, PTI candidate Ishaq Khattak is leading with 12,533 votes while JUI-F candidate Mufti Hakim Ali is trailing with 10,614 votes.

Tehsil Jahangira Chairman Seat:

According to unofficial results of 51 polling stations in Jahangira Tehsil of Nowshera District, PTI’s Kamran Raziq is leading with 9,837 votes while Awami National Party candidate Sikandar Masood is trailing with 9,376 votes.

Buner District

Tehsil Chagharzai Seat:

According to unofficial results of all polling stations for the chairman seat in Chagharzai tehsil of Buner district, PTI candidate Sharif Khan won with 8,608 votes, while independent candidate Iqbal Khan came second with 4,542 votes.

Gagra Tehsil Seat:

According to the complete unconfirmed results of all the polling stations for the chairman seat in Gagra Tehsil, PTI’s Salar Jahan Baacha won with 11,900 votes while Rashid Ahmed of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F secured 7,072 votes.

Gadizai Tehsil Seat:

According to the complete preliminary results of all the polling stations for the chairman seat in Gadizai tehsil of Buner district, Sher Alam of PTI won with 11,200 votes while Shah Jahan of Awami National Party came second with 6,900 votes.

Dagar Tehsil Seat:

According to the complete unconfirmed results of all the polling stations for the chairman’s seat in Dagar Tehsil of Buner District, Rozi Khan of PTI won with 8,540 votes while Arifullah of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F came second with 7,800 votes.

Haripur District

Khanpur Tehsil Seat:

According to the complete unofficial results of all the polling stations for the chairman seat in Khanpur Tehsil of Haripur District, PML-N candidate Raja Haroon won with 32,361 votes, while PTI candidate Raja Shahab got 26,296 votes. Taxes are second.

Mohmand District

Baizai Tehsil Seat:

According to the complete unofficial results of all the polling stations for the chairman seat in Baizai Tehsil of Mohmand District, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F candidate Maulana Bismillah won with 4,788 votes while independent candidate Malik Zahid came second with 4,210 votes.

Upper Mohmand Tehsil Seat:

According to the complete unofficial results of all the polling stations for the chairman seat in Upper Mohmand Tehsil of Mohmand District, Maulana Taj Wali of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F won with 8,870 votes while Amirullah Junaidi of PTI got 4,810 votes.

Hangu District

Tehsil Thal Seat:

Mufti Imran of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F won with 14,233 votes, while the PTI candidate came second with 5,808 votes.

Tehsil Hangu Seat:

Independent candidate Amir Ghani with 16,535 votes won while Muhammad Qasim of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F came second with 10,350 votes.

Dera Ismail Khan District

Tehsil Parwa Seat:

Independent candidate Fakhrullah won with 21,400 votes while Imtiaz Baloch of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F won with 18,200 votes.

Tehsil Kalachi Seat:

According to the complete unofficial results of all polling stations for the chairman seat in Tehsil Kalachi of Dera Ismail Khan District, PTI candidate Ariz Khan won with 9,725 votes while PPP’s Faridoon Khan came second with 6,832 votes.

Tehsil Darazanda Seat:

According to the unofficial results of all polling stations, independent candidate Izzat Gul won the seat of chairman in Darazanda tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan district with 2,293 votes, while Ataullah Shah of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F came second with 1,723 votes.

Tehsil Darahan Kalan Seat:

According to the complete unofficial results of all polling stations for the chairman seat in Darahan Kalan tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan district, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Ehsanullah won with 15,125 votes while Babar Khan of PTI got 8,556 votes.

District Swabi

Swabi Chairman Seat:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s  Attaullah emerged victorious by securing 29,363 votes, while ANP’s Akmal Khan bagged 21,050 votes.

Swabi District Tehsil Chota Lahore Seat:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Adil Khan grabbed the chairman seat after securing 22,036 votes, while JUI-F’s Muhammad Shuhab got 14,820 votes.

The districts where local government elections are being held included Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Khyber, Mohmand, Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Karak, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Tank, Haripur, Buner and Bajaur.

The polls in the rest of the province will be held in January in the second phase.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed elections in some tehsils after clash reported between political parties.

Around 9,223 polling stations and 28,892 polling booths were set up, out of which 4,188 polling stations have been declared sensitive and 2,507 most sensitive.

According to statistics, 2587 candidates are taking part in the KP elections for general councilor seats in Peshawar.

2,032 Candidates Elected Unopposed

2,032 candidates have been elected unopposed during the first phase of local government (LG) polls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in 17 districts.

In Peshawar, 62 candidates have been elected unopposed on general seats, 145 on women seats, 105 on farmers seats, 45 on minorities seats.

In Nowshera, 12 candidates were elected unopposed on general seats, 51 on women seats, 19 on farmers seats, 34 on youth seats and 11 on minorities seats.

Nine candidates were elected unopposed on general seats in Charsadda, 55 on women seats, 9 on farmers seats, 30 on youth seats and 9 on minorities seats.

Twenty-four candidates were elected unopposed on general seats in the Khyber district, 51 on women seats, 18 on farmers seats, 30 on youth seats and 12 on minorities seats.

In Mohmand district, 15 were elected unopposed on women seats, 5 on youth seats, whereas, 9 on general seats in Mardan, 99 on women seats, 38 on farmers seats, 68 on youth seats and 15 on youth seats.

In Swabi, 18 candidates were elected unopposed on general seats, 84 on women seats, 40 on farmers seats, 57 on youth seats and two on minorities seats.

In Kohat, six were elected unopposed on general seats, 61 on women seats, 8 on farmers seats, 23 on youth seats and 10 on minorities seats.

In Karak, nine candidates were elected unopposed on women seats, one on farmers seat, two on minorities seats. In Hangu, 14 were elected unopposed on general seats, 24 on women seats, 16 on farmers seats and one on minorities seats.

In Bannu, three were elected unopposed on general seats, 22 on women seats, 5 on farmers seats, 11 on youth seats and 7 on minorities seats.

In Lakki Marwat, 11 were elected unopposed on women seats, 3 on farmers seats, 11 on youth seats and 5 on minorities seats. In Dera Ismail Khan, 12 were elected unopposed on general seats, 53 on women seats, 12 on farmers seats, 28 on youth seats and minorities seats.
