ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications (IT&T) in its meeting has given one week to Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to appoint a focal person for coordination between the two bodies and in case there are any procedural hiccups to come up with an alternate solution to ensure proper implementation mechanism of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), 2016.
According to a statement released form senate secretariat, the meeting was held with Senator Rubina Khalid in the chair here at the Parliament House on Tuesday and was attended among others by senators Abdul Rehman Malik, Minister for IT&T Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, secretary IT&T, chairman PTA, director Cyber Wing FIA, Chairman PTET.
The Committee expressed anguish over non-compliance of its earlier directions of bringing proposal to tackle the overlapping jurisdiction of PTA and FIA and PECA, 2016.
The Committee directed PTET and PTCL to do the necessary calculations as to how much amount is needed to make the pending payment and what amount will then be required to keep the PTET fund alive for upcoming years in 15 days, reads the statement.
The senate body took notice of the delay in banning of controversial social media account that contributed in the anarchy situation in the country.
The senators strongly recommended pre-emptive measures by PTA and FIA to take notice of anti-state and anti-society activities on social media.
