Security threat: PIA suspends night flight operations at Peshawar airport

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to suspend flight operations at night at Bacha Khan International Airport, Peshawar, ARY News reported Thursday.

The decision will come into effect from today. Sources informed that PIA opted for the move in view of security threats. Flights will now only be operation in daytime at Peshawar airport, added the sources.

Foreign airlines have also been communicated about the decision and asked to operate flights in daytime.

Sources told that administration took the measure after repeated security threats and recent firing incident on PIA aircraft.

In the incident, a woman passenger was killed while a steward and another passenger were injured when a PIA flight coming from Riyadh was attacked with gunfire on Tuesday (June 24) night at Peshawar airport.

Peshawar Cantonment officials had confirmed that around four bullets were fired from Pishtakhara area adjoining the airport had hit the plane. The airport’s operation was subsequently suspended after the attack and incoming flights were diverted to Islamabad and Lahore.
