Saira Banu reacts to reports claiming Dilip Kumar suffering from pneumonia

NEW DELHI: Responding to reports of Dilip Kumar suffering from pneumonia, his wife Saira Banu has rejected the reports going viral and said the legendary Indian actor was fine and recuperating.

When asked about Dilip Kumar’s health, doting wife Saira Banu told Indian news channels, “He is fine and is at home. Someone has started this rumour that he is having pneumonia but there is no such thing. He is just having a regular cold and fever. He is at home and recovering.”

A few days back, the thespian was discharged from hospital after suffering pneumonia. Before that, he complained of a chest infection and was hit by mild pneumonia and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai.

The actor has been in and out of hospital for the last few years for the past few years. He was last admitted in hospital in August 2017 due to kidney issues.

In December 2016, he was brought in for a swelling in his right leg and in April last year, he was ill with pneumonia, but made a quick recovery in two days.

Dilip Kumar made his debut with Jwar Bhata in 1944, and has acted in over 50 films in his career spanning more than five decades.

The actor has given us iconic films like Devdas, Mughal-e-Azam and Naya Daur, Ganga Jamuna, Kranti, and Karma.

Last seen on the big screen in Qila in 1998, the actor was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. He is known for his path-breaking performances in blockbuster films like ‘Devdas’, ‘Mughal-e-Azam, ‘Ganga Jumna’, and ‘Karma’, to name a few.

The epithet ‘Tragedy King’ was given to the actor because of his poignant and emotional films.
