THE HAGUE: South Korea defeated Belgium whereas hosts Netherlands beat Australia in the Women’s Hockey World Cup at Dutch capital of The Hague on Saturday, ARY News reports.
S.Korea’s Eunbl Cheon scored the first goal for her side in the 12th minute but Jill Boon equalized for the Belgians three minutes later. Alix Gerniers took the lead for Belgium in the 39th minute.
However, the Korean side scored three goals to make a dramatic comeback in the match. Mihyun Park netted two back to back goals in the 49th and 55th minute. Eunbl Cheon scored her second in the 61st minute to seal the victory for her side.
Two goals by Anita Punt helped New Zealand give a 4-1 thrashing to Japan.
Sophie Cocks netted the first goal for the New Zealand in the fifth minutes and Anita Punt doubled the score line in the 38th minute. Katie Glynn scored the third for her side a minute later but Yuri Nagal pulled one goal back for Japan in the 51st minute.
Punt scored her second goal of the match in the 69th minute to seal the match for her side.
Netherlands defeated Australia 2-0 in their World Cup match yesterday.
Kim Lammers netted the opener for the hosts in the 57th minute whereas Naomi Van As scored the second goal in the 65th minute.
