KARACHI: Robbers barged into a private bank in Karachi and robbed Rs0.8 million in a matter of minutes on Thursday, ARY News reported.
According to detail, four robbers entered the bank on Shara-e-Faisal at 2:45 pm and within five minutes they collected Rs0.8 million from the cash counter and fled from the scene on two bikes.
Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) East Noman Siddiqui said the criminals had taken the bank staff hostage on gunpoint.
The SSP said the incident took place in Ferozabad police station’s jurisdiction. He said it took 15 minutes to police to reach the bank after security alarm was set off.
He said it was found out that security rules were not being followed by the bank’s branch and the bunker made for security purpose was being used as a store, which made it easy for the criminals to conduct the crime easily.
Police said bank staff and security guards were being interrogated as further investigation was underway to arrest the culprits.
Meanwhile, IG Sindh Police Amjad Javed Salemi has taken notice of the incident and directed the DIG East and DIG CIA to immediately present a report on the incident.
It is pertinent to mention here that the robbers also snatched guns of security guards posted at the bank.
ARY News has obtained CCTCV footage of the incident in which the armed men can be seen carrying out the loot.
