Revealed: Most-edited pages of Wikipedia in 2016

Wikipedia has released a list of its most-edited pages this year, with an article detailing the year’s notable deaths topping the list.

The other most-edited pages were related to US elections while five articles were revised more than 5,000 times.

Meanwhile, a monthly breakdown showed the Panama Papers investigation topped edits in April and the Nice attack in July.

Here are the top six pages edited most of the times this year.

1- Deaths in 2016

This page describing the most notable deaths was edited more than 18,000 times.

The names added included Alan Rickman, David Bowie, Harper Lee, Andrew Sachs, Muhammad Ali, Fidel Castro, Florence Henderson and Alan Thicke.

2- Donald Trump

United States President-elect Donald Trump was the second most-edited page, amended at least 9,000 times.

The former businessman and television personality was formally announced as the 45th President of the United States, just in time for Christmas.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s page did not make the top 10, racking up only 2,000 edits.

3- List of Hillary Clinton presidential campaign endorsements

A list of prominent campaign endorsements for Mrs Clinton did make the top 10, despite her own page failing to make it.

The list included political endorsements from President Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter and Bernie Sanders.

4- US presidential election

Unsurprisingly the 2016 presidential election made it high on the list with 6,162 alterations.

Millions around the globe anxiously awaited the results of one of the most high-profile US elections.

Many were shocked at the outcome — protests rocked cities across America and thousands called for recounts and changes to the current electoral voting system.

5- Republican Party presidential runners

Coming in at number five of the most edited pages is the race for which Republican presidential candidate would win the nomination to run for President. To date the page has been edited 5,715 times.

Obviously, we know now who won the nomination, but at the time Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and John Kasich were in the running.

6- 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting

A gunman’s attack on the Pulse Orlando nightclub became the worst mass shooting in US history.

49 people were killed and another 53 were injured when a heavily-armed gunman opened fire and seized hostages at the Pulse nightclub.
