Fuel prices: Resolution in PA demands resignation of Asad Umar

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) MPA Hina Pervez Butt submitted a resolution in the Punjab Assembly secretariat demanding resignation of Finance Minister Asad Umar over “failed policies”, ARY News reported.

The resolution states the government’s policies with regard to prices of petroleum products have failed. It, therefore, demands that Finance Minister Asad Umar stand down from his office.

The government’s decision to jack up fuel prices for the month of April has triggered strong criticism from opposition parties that are demanding the government to withdraw the hike.

The government on Sunday increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs6 per litre each and kerosene and light diesel oil (LDO) prices were jacked up by three rupees a litre for the month of April 2019 effective from today.

The petrol prices have been increased from the existing Rs92.88 to Rs98.88/litre while prices of High Speed Diesel (HSD) have been increased to Rs117.43 per litre from the earlier Rs111.43 a litre.

Kerosene price has been increased from Rs86.31 to Rs89.31 per litre. The LDO price has been increased from earlier Rs77.53 to Rs80.53 per litre.
