Research in IT field key to socio-economic development in country: President Alvi

ISALAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi here on Friday declared research in the field of Information Technology key to socio-economic development in the country.  

Talking to a delegation of Prime Minister’s Task Force on IT and Telecom, who called on him at his office in Islamabad, President Dr. Arif Alvi said that said the government was cognizant of the potential and significance of IT sector and added that they made it a national priority.

The president said that IT sector could play a major role in poverty elevation in the country. He further said, “4th industrial revolution was changing the way that we live and work.”

On this occasion, Dr. Arif Alvi underlined the need for new ideas and initiatives to meet the challenges on the current era and assured the Task Force of every possible support.

Earlier, underscoring the need for specialised training programme, President Dr. Arif Alvi, on March 14, had said that Pakistan had lagged behind in software exports due to lack of focus and proper training.

The President had said that during a video conference with a group of leading Pakistani IT experts from Silicon Valley to discuss Pakistan software business initiative and training programmes for information technology students of the country.
