ISLAMABAD: Former Malir Senior Superintendent Police (SSP), Rao Anwar, has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court, urging the court to review its previous order and remove his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) in Naqeebullah murder case, ARY News reported.

The Supreme Court on Jan 10 had rejected Anwar’s plea to have his name removed from the ECL. Anwar is accused of being involved in the murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud — an aspiring model and shopkeeper from South Waziristan — and others in a fake police encounter in Karachi, but is currently out on bail.

He claimed in his plea that his role had never been proved in the Naqeebullah murder case hence his name should be struck off the ECL.

He said the Supreme Court overlooked legal angles in its verdict. Anwar said the apex court didn’t keep in view legal provisions in its interim order.

Cited his previous plea, he said the court didn’t consider several important aspects while rejecting the petition to remove name from ECL.

The ban on my travel is against the fundamental right I am entitled to, he claimed.

He said his life was under threat and he couldn’t travel freely in Pakistan. He appealed the court to review the top court order of Jan 10 and remove travel ban imposed on him.
