Details obtained by ARY News revealed Punjab Interior Minister has proposed a 60-day Ranger policing powers for Punjab according to the Pakistan Rangers’ Ordinance.
Rangers in Punjab should also be given a representation in joint investigation teams (JITs), it has been proposed in the provincial government’s summary.
Experts believe calling Rangers in Punjab is linked with taking the much-talked-about National Action Plan (NAP) to another level after top civil and military leaderships took major decisive decisions in the last rounds of NAP talks in the federal capital.
In a bid to ensure the deployment of paramilitary troops across the Punjab province under NAP, the provincial interior ministry now awaits Mr Sharif’s official nod.

Once their deployment in Punjab becomes final, the way Rangers did operations and crackdowns against militants, banned outfits and terror groups, they would now be going against terrorists and their aides across the largest province of Pakistan.
The Punjab government finally making efforts to act as per NAP after Chief of the Army Staffs General Raheel Sharif sends out his clear stance in his message on September 6 that full action needed to be taken against terrorism without any favours.
General Sharif had called for the implementation of NAP while stressing on wide-ranging legal and governance reforms to maintain the military’s achievements against terrorists including the ongoing Operation Zarb-i-Azb.
He also discussed the measures key to addressing continuing deadly terror threats in the country and stressed on effective implementation of NAP at the earliest in his September 6 speech.
