Jai Rajputana Sangh, a fringe Rajput group has threatened that if they are not shown Padmavati movie before its release, they will burn the cinemas that screen the flick based on a true story of a Rajput queen and a Muslim king.
Founder of Jai Rajputana Sangh, Bhanwar Singh Reta warned that they would not tolerate any ‘distortion of history’ and if any romance is shown between queen Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji, they would burn cinema halls screening the film.
“Our members are trained in handling a large array of weapons ranging from swords to AK 47 guns. We won’t let anyone dishonour Padmavati and insult the people of Rajasthan,” said founder of the group consisting of 2.65 lakh members.
“Our demand is that the filmmakers screen it to a panel of representatives from various Rajput organizations. We will only give them a go-ahead to release the film after we are satisfied that no scene insults queen Padmavati,” he added.
The Rajputs have said the Rani of Chittor had committed ‘Jauhar’ (immolated herself) to protect her chastity as Alauddin Khilji proceeded to conquer the fort.
The film slated to be released on 1st of December this year is based on the life of the Rani of Chittor in Rajasthan and how Sultan Alauddin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh, gets obsessed with her and wins her heart.
Padmavati seems to be a complete gender reversal as seen in Bajirao Mastani, and will surely be an interesting movie to watch.
The movie is directed by Bollywood filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali who is known for his opulent sets and visual splendor. You can imagine grandeur of his sets by the fact that it took 200 craftsmen, 600 days and 400 Kg of gold to create Deepika Padukone’s jewellery for Padmavati.
The protagonist is reportedly donning the dresses worth around Rs2 millions and weigh almost 30kgs.

Sanjay Bhansali was assaulted at set of his film Padmavati in Jaipur in Rajasthan in January this year for the same allegation.
Activists of the Rajput Karni Sena shoved, slapped and pulled Bhansali’s hair, manhandled other crew members and damaged the sets at Jaigarh Fort.
Now again, the movie is under threat from the Rajputs despite the fact that they have been ensured that there is no love-making scene between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji.
