Railways minister asks contract officers getting high salaries to resign

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad on Saturday asked the contract officers getting high salaries to leave their jobs within one week themselves.

“We will find a middle way about 4,000 employees on contract,” he said while talking to newsmen in Lahore.

He said effective measures would be taken to improve the living standard of railway employees and new residences would be built for them.

The minister said that work would be done in double shifts at the Railways Carriage Factory Islamabad and Locomotive Factory Risalpur to overcome shortage of carriages and locomotives.

He said more attention is being given to freight to boost Railways’ finances and financial condition of Pakistan Railways would be improved soon through effective marketing.

He said that young officers would be encouraged to work for betterment of Railways.

The railways minister said cases of corruption in Railways were being sent to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for probing.

He said he did not direct for any kind of inquiry against former railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique.

Earlier, presiding over a meeting at Railways Headquarters in Lahore today, the railways minister directed the concerned authorities to bring maximum business for improving Railways’ economic situation.

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said every single operational locomotive should be utilized properly.
