The NA-125 constituency which includes most of the most affluent areas of Lahore was won by Rafique during the 2013 general elections.
According to a report submitted by National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), 149,138 votes in the constituency could not be verified and 7892 votes were not verified due to various reasons. However, Nadra has mentioned that the votes which are not verified cannot be considered bogus.
The report stated that 214,134 votes were cast during the general elections in the constituency, out of which 398 were declared void for double votes, and the National Identity Card (NIC) numbers on 3,998 votes were incorrect.
Also, there were 184 votes which belonged to voters of other constituencies, while the NIC numbers of 1,917 voters was not even present. The report concluded that only 57,098 votes could be successfully verified.
The decision comes after the Supreme Court asked the Nadra to present the report about voter verification. After the general elections, a complaint was filed by opponent Hamid Khan of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) who accused Rafique of rigging and requested a re-verification of all votes cast in the election.
Rafique had obtained a stay order from the Supreme Court to stop further proceedings of the election tribunal.
