When ‘queen’ of Pakistan’s pop music industry left us

Who could forget, the most celebrated pop sensation of the Pakistani music industry till date as no one, we repeat, no has been able to come close to her persona following the years of her untimely death.

Known as the “Nightingale of Pakistan”, her fans remember Nazia and her brother, Zoheb Hassan, as the duo who altered the pop culture in the country sending out the waves globally, especially across the border.

Sixteen years ago today, the beautiful Nazia lost her battle against lung cancer at a young age of 35 in 2000.

She spent her early years hopping between Karachi and London with her brother and family.

Later, Nazia knocked the doors of the local entertainment industry and started appearing on the national television network as a child artist.

However, the world learnt about her talent when her song “Ap Jesa Koe” was released for a smashing Bollywood hit “Qurbaani” in 1980. She was only 15.

The song earned her global fame and the prestigious Film Fare Award for best female playback singer.

Nazia was also a recipient of the Pride of Performance Double Platinum Award and Golden Discs Awards.

She may not be with us today, but her voice would continue to mesmerise us with her beautiful songs.
