Punjab’s Thalassemia Prevention Bill makes pre-marital screening mandatory

The Government of Punjab is in the process of introducing legislation that will make it mandatory for couples to get screened for being Thalassemia carriers before they marry. The move, the government says, will help alert the would-be spouses whether they were at risk of giving birth to Thalassaemic children.
