LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Friday strongly condemned the killing of JUI-S chief Maulana Sami ul Haq in Rawalpindi, seeking a report from the Inspector General of Punjab Police on the incident.
According to a statement, he issued directives for the police to thoroughly investigate the incident and bring those behind the killing of the JUI-S chief to justice at once.
Chief of his own faction of Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S) Maulana Sami ul Haq was stabbed to death at his residence in Rawalpindi on Friday evening.
The chief minister said that the death of Maulana Sami ul Haq is a national tragedy as the country has been deprived of a senior politician as well as a religious scholar.
He said that religious and political services of Maulana Sami ul Haq will be remembered in the country. He extended his heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed that may Almighty Allah gave fortitude to the heirs to bear the loss with equanimity.
The Punjab chief minister directed the chief secretary and IG police to provide facilities for shifting the dead body of Maulana Sami ul Haq to Akora Khattak for burial. A helicopter of the provincial government will also be made available for the purpose, he added.
